歌舞伎座 木挽町通りでプロジェクションマッピングイベント開催！！

2026年3月27日（金）～4月5日（日）の10日間にわたり、木挽町通りの歌舞伎座“壁面”を活用するプロジェクションマッピングイベント「江戸裏道幻燈夜 Edo Hidden Street Projection ―歌舞伎座裏道まよい道―」（えどうらみちげんとうや）を開催いたします！

【木挽町と芝居まち】

江戸時代、現在の東銀座駅周辺のエリアは、徳川家康の指示による江戸城修築・拡張工事の為、木挽職人（木材を大きな鋸で切る人）が多く集まっていたことから、“木挽町”（こびきちょう）と呼ばれていました。また当時、幕府から権利を与えられた劇場だけが櫓（やぐら）を上げて歌舞伎の興行をすることができ、木挽町でも江戸三座のひとつである森田座が幕府公認の劇場として公演を行い、そのほかにも大小さまざまな芝居小屋も立ち並び、芝居まちとしても親しまれていました。

【歴史を紡ぐプロジェクションマッピング】

今回のプロジェクションマッピングでは、エリア内に位置する「松竹大谷図書館」の所蔵資料の中から歌舞伎舞踊の代表的演目のひとつである「石橋」（しゃっきょう）を描いた“組上燈籠絵”（くみあげとうろうえ）を用い、絵を立体的に動かす演出で歌舞伎の魅力を発信すると共に、人々を路地裏に誘う妖怪猫や木挽職人をモチーフにしたオリジナルキャラクターの切り絵、当時の様子を描いた錦絵などを多角的に展開し、江戸時代の木挽町の歴史や芝居を楽しむ江戸っ子の様子、木挽町を取り巻く風景などをダイナミックに表現。子どもから大人、国内外の来街者まで幅広い層の方にお楽しみいただける構成で展開いたします。

※「松竹大谷図書館」…1958年 の開館以来、約60年以上にわたって多くの演劇・映画ファンに愛されている演劇・映画に関する専門図書館。

※「組上燈籠絵」…江戸期から昭和期まで広く流行した錦絵の一種。風景や建物、歌舞伎の演目などを描いたもので、部品を切り出して立体に組み立てて遊ぶことができる、現代のペーパークラフトのようなもの。組上燈籠絵は、組上げられて完成すると「組上燈籠」と呼ばれる。

【3日間限定で特大マッピングを限定投影】

なかでも、開幕からの3日間〈3月27日（金）～29日（日）〉は、木挽町通りを歩行者天国化し、歌舞伎座“壁面”2か所を活用した特大マッピングを限定投影。よりダイナミックにマッピングをお楽しみいただけます。

さらにこの3日間〈3月27日（金）～29日（日）〉に合わせて「江戸裏道マーケット」を同時開催！歌舞伎そばや銀座で採れたはちみつ、厳選した日本酒などを購入できるマルシェや、江戸時代の忍者や侍に変身できるワークショップなど東銀座ならではのマルシェやワークショップが集結します。また、外国人観光客向けに着物等を着用した探索ツアーも開催！

Night event featuring projection mapping along Kabukiza Theatre and Kobikicho-dori Ave.!

The Higashiginza Area Management Association is pleased to announce the details for our upcoming event, “Edo Hidden Street Projection: Wandering the Hidden Street of Kabukiza.” This 10-night spectacle will feature projection mapping on the exterior walls of the Kabukiza Theatre. The event will take place from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, April 5, 2026, along Kobikicho-dori Ave.

【Historical Background: Kobikicho and the Theatre District】

During the Edo period, the area around present-day Higashi-ginza Station was known as “Kobikicho” (Lumber-cutters’ Town). It was named after the many kobiki (artisans who sawed large timber) who gathered there for the reconstruction and expansion of Edo Castle under Tokugawa Ieyasu.The area also flourished as a “theatre district”. It was home to Morita-za, one of the three officially licensed Edo kabuki theatres, and was surrounded by various playhouses of all sizes.

【Weaving History through Projection Mapping】

This production will feature historical materials from the Shochiku Otani Library, including Kumiage-toro-e (paper model prints) of the famous Kabuki dance “Shakkyo” (The Stone Bridge). By animating these historical images in 3D, the production aims to showcase the charm of Kabuki.The display will also introduce original paper-cut characters, such as:
• Gin-san: A kobiki craftsman from Kobikicho.
• Gentomaru: A phantom cat that lures people into the backstreets.
Through dynamic visuals of Nishiki-e (woodblock prints)
depicting Edo-era life, visitors of all ages and backgrounds
can experience the history and vibrant atmosphere of old Kobikicho.

※Shochiku Otani Library: A specialized library for theater and film it has been cherished by performing arts and cinema enthusiasts for over 60 years since its founding in 1958.

※Kumiage-toro-e: A traditional form of Nishiki-e (woodblock print) that was widely popular from the Edo to the Showa periods. These prints depicted landscapes, architecture, and Kabuki scenes, and functioned much like modern-day paper crafts where individual parts could be cut out and assembled into three-dimensional models. Once completed, they are referred to as “Kumiage-toro.”

【Limited 3-Day Extra-Large Projection (March 27–29)】

Kobikicho-dori Ave. will be turned into a pedestrian-only zone, featuring an exclusive, extra-large projection mapping on two exterior walls of the Kabukiza Theatre.

【Special Features & Concurrent Events】

In conjunction with the special 3-day (Friday, March 27 – Sunday, March 29), we will also host the “Edo Hidden Street Market”! This event will feature a unique lineup of Higashi-ginza experiences, including a marketplace where visitors can purchase “Kabuki Soba,” Ginza-harvested honey, and carefully selected Japanese sake. In addition, there will be workshops to transform into Edo-period ninjas or samurai. We will also offer a guided exploration tour for international tourists, featuring the opportunity to stroll through the area in traditional attire such as kimono.

Additionally, we will be holding special commemorative campaigns, such as the “Edo Hidden Street Stamp Rally,” where collecting stamps can earn you various benefits at participating local shops, and the “Garapon Lottery,” where you can win luxury prizes and coupons!
